The camping area of EOT in Patras Plaz has been in bad condition, almost abandoned for several years. The transportation to the place isn't very frequent and available only on summer months and the only working facility seems to be the restaurant. This project tries to bring the area back into focus and turn it into an attractive destination for tourists and locals alike.
Plaz is situated between the university and the city center, so is an ideal location to visit for a break from everyday life. It is near the international and national highways so it has a strategic position and it can be a great stop for travaellers and tourists. The railway guarantees easy access from the city center.
There are four main areas nearby:
- the swamp could be a destination for nature lovers if taken care of;
- the fields and the few residents around filter out the busy sounds of the city
- the seaside is very narrow in front of the camping but has sufficient length to accomodate visitors.
In the plot we can define five usages of the space. There is the coastline used by the visitors to swim or have a break with a beatiful view of the bridge and Paliovouna mountain; the recreational area in which are located the restaurant, the playground, the basketball court, two small gardens and the pavillion.
The orientation of the restaurant allows the diners to enjoy their meal while watching the sunset; the playground offers to the children a place here they can play freely and safely.
The sun plays an importat role in our design process. The highest point of the sun is on the south-east side of the plot where several trees work s a shadowing surface.
The main stream of the wind comes from south-west, but there are smaller streams of wind coming from north, north-east, north-west and south-east. These smaller streams are rare but very powerful.
