Exercise #1: Analysis of the area (Karolina Bihun, Δήμητρα Γραικούση)

 The area of our analysis is located on the seaside in Patras, where is the National Tourist Organisation of Greece Campsite (Plaz E.O.T.). We have made observations regarding the aspects of the site that we found interesting, as well as some of the main factors that constituted it. 

The main aspect of our analysis, are the views that the visitors see. Because of the dense vegetation of the area, the field of the view is pretty short in most cases. The only places when you can see the view, which is the sea and the landmarks behind it, such as the mountain Paliovouna and the most infamous bridge of Rio-Antirio. The view there is still pretty narrow. 

Another aspect of the analysis, are the different textures of the waterfront. The connection of the land and water along the site is changing dramatically. There are many different materials that put the beach together. When the visitor stands on the beach, they can step in water or on the sand, or on pebbles, or even on the grass. Apart from that, there’s a restaurant, that interrupts the waterfront, and creates three very strict geometrical triangles which stand out from the rest, more natural beachfront. In that way, the visitor can immediately step from a natural, to an industrial, designated environment.

At the first sight, the site doesn't seem to fit to the surrounding area. It is in the middle, where the natural round shapes and the sharp shapes meet. Also the site itself is shaped geometrically with straight lines what confronts with naturally rounded coast.
